Tea Party: October 27, 2012

Friends and family members of Isabelle Scott gathered for a tea party to honor the nine angels who cared to Isabelle during her final seven months. The Girls Choristers of the National Cathedral, where Isabelle founded, performed to celebrate the angels and honor Isabelle. The angels were each presented with an original "Color Portrait" of Isabelle based on the these words they each gave to Isabelle on her seventieth birthday.

Gratitude Workshop: October 17, 2012

"The children of the Saint Alban’s community and I explored the idea of gratitude. I briefly shared the story of my mom’s “miracle” birthday – explaining how it manifested into her wondrous seventieth birthday present. I talked about how I re-created that expression of love and gratitude in the art of the Birthday exhibition, as seen on the walls of Satterlee Hall.

I then asked the children to identify someone close to them whom they would like to express gratitude to. After showing them examples of text-based artwork, I asked them to come up with a list of words that deeply embody the person they selected. After reflection, and a brief meditation, they chose their final three words.

Then we considered color. I shared images of works by artists who have explored color deeply in their work. Our young artists then tried to narrow down three colors that somehow relate to the words they chose and the recipient of their gratitude gift. They worked with oil crayons and colored pencils. The children wrote a brief summary of why they feel gratitude for the person they identified for the project. They plan on presenting their pieces to their dear ones shortly!"
